30 Waves In 30 Days, Achieved
September was a big month in the Coastalwatch x Surfing World office with a committed bunch ready to take on 30 waves in 30 days fo SurfAid September.
The aim, to helping build awareness and raise funds to assist in improving the health, wellbeing and self-reliance of people living in some the world's best surf locations including the Mentawai, Nias, Sumbawa and Sumba.
The team achieved the result, with a couple of invitees. Thanks to the dawn-patrol; next-level photographic genius, Mark Onorati and the surfers Vaughan Blakey, Danny Johnson, Corbin Nash, Robbie Warden, Nick Gregory, Otis Carey, Carl Gonsalves, Dave Coburn, Kobi Clements and Darcy Crump.
As well as the #30Waves4September challenge the team also competed in the 2015 Billabong SurfAid Cup, a tag-team surf event at Manly Beach. 18 corporate teams raised $140,000 with 'The Paddlers' taking gold for the day and CWxSW coming in 11th overall. An amazing event with some of the countries best surfers taking part in the action and cause.

With the help of Billabong and the larger SurfAid community, over $400,000 AUD was raised during “SurfAid September” for SurfAid’s lifesaving work in Indonesia, an incredible result that will go directly into aid.
Global Marketing & Fundraising Director, Corrine Habel said, “We are enormously grateful to all of the people that supported SurfAid during the month of September. Much like the Coastal Watch and Surfing World crew, countless people took to the water to show their desire to help save lives.”
“The impact of SurfAid September will be huge in the villages we serve. Funds will bring clean water and treated malaria nets and help to train midwives and community health volunteers – real life-changing and life-saving initiatives.” Said Corrine.

SurfAid’s core mission is to save the lives of women and children in remote areas of Indonesia – in places where hardly anyone but surfers go. They specialize in working very isolated villages where the maternal and child mortality rate is extremely high. Many in theses communities suffer from preventable causes. Simple things like washing hands before delivering a baby, sleeping under a mosquito net, exclusive breastfeeding, and improving nutrition can have an enormous positive impact on the health of women and their families.
SurfAid was borne out of one surfer’s desire to make a difference. In the past fifteen years, in addition to building award-winning health programs, they have helped communities re-build their lives after five major natural disasters – earthquakes and tsunamis in the area.
