    Summary
Monday’s cold, rainy and wind-affected conditions belie a good run of waves across the NSW coast over the coming week. We’re now entering the early stages of a combined East/ South swell event that holds great beach-break potential across the region for days to come. As mentioned last week, the source of the Easterly swell is a relatively weak low pressure system that formed on a deep trough located just off the NSW coast. The low is positioned just off the mid-north coast and will slowly drift away to the east over the next few days. As this occurs, the low will establish a strengthening easterly fetch in conjunction with a ridge to the south; probably reaching peak strengths of 30 to 35 knots offshore on Tuesday.

However, it looks like this event won’t get particularly big. Swell potential is constrained by the constant eastward movement of the low and associated fetch, progressively moving further away from the coast. The storm is also forecast to weaken as it drifts further out towards NZ’s North Island on Wednesday before dissipating on Thursday – and this limits the duration of the strongest winds to a couple of days at best. Never the less, it's clear we're in for a pretty fun round of Easterly swell; starting out with localised SE to ESE windswell on Tuesday, ahead of straighter, better organised mid-period E swell arriving on Wednesday; peaking in the 3 to 4ft plus range.
