Calling WAHU, Australia's Biggest Micro Grom Comp Series Wraps Up This Weekend

Wrapping up the biggest micro grom comp in Australia’s history this weekend is the eighth and final event in the Wahu Surfer Groms Comp National Series.

Over 100 kids will take over the beaches of woolongong with their surfboards, mini footballs, Groova soccer balls, frisbees, zip back arrow packs and more, in a fun filled extravaganza that has had the coast buzzing!

The now famous series attracts groms of all calibres, like up coming surfers like Jackson Giles (Maroubra), Alyssa Lock (Tweed Heads), Skyla Rayner (Sussex) and Nathan Martin (Cronulla) who are regular faces on the grom circuit.

“This series has grown beyond our expectations, kids like Jackson and Alyssa turn up to more than one event across the state and their surfing just gets better and better”, said Surfing NSW event manager Luke Madden.

“It’s not only the more experienced kids that make the numbers, our under 9’s parent assist division is the most popular and it fills up so fast. Watching the stoked faces of the groms after their dad has pushed them onto the wave is what it’s all about”, said Madden.

The all-grommet, family-orientated event is all about providing a fun, competitive environment with a focus on introducing competitors to the structure of a professionally run surfing contest.

Young Keira Buckpitt from Culburra has entered for the second time after watching her brothers compete in the last few events. Her first event like many others was in Cronulla in December and she is hooked on the games and surfing the event provides.

The event takes place at Woolongong this Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th February 2012. Under 15 boys and girls, under 13 boys and girls, under 11 boys and girls and under 9 boys and girls parent assist will be in the water having a blast.

To enter, go to www.surfingnsw.com.au for an entry form or contact the Surfing NSW Office on (02) 9349 7055.

The Wahu Surfer Groms Comps is a monster Series with male and female surfers competing in 8 separate divisions over 8 events Nationally. Proudly supported by Suncorp, Surfing Australia and Surfing NSW. For all information visit www.wahu.com.au and www.surfingnsw.com.au
