WA SWELL REPORT: Solid Down South
Report by Dan Wyer

September in the South West has brought a mixed bag of variable surfing conditions. A regular pattern seems to have fallen into place with 4-5 days of stormy, onshore conditions followed by a couple days of sunshine, offshore winds and classic Spring time surf. The past weekend saw two very different days conditions wise.
Saturday saw a sharp rise in stormy WSW swell to a massive 6m on the Cape Naturaliste buoy with fresh and gusty SW winds. Protected bays and points offered the only surfable options across the region with the more sheltered breaks up behind the Cape the stand outs. The WA Bodyboard Titles scored the best of it.
Wind shifted quickly overnight to a favourable Easterly direction cleaning up the solid and still quite raw 8-10ft+ swell. As the morning wore on winds freshened ENE smoothing out the bumps. Winds stayed favourable untill mid afternoon making for a few memorable sessions at a number of big wave reefs and bombies across the region. Protected bays and points flared through the morning also with some clean, lean lines pouring in. The annual 'Gracetown Grommets' contest run by the Margaret River boardriders got lucky with some classic conditions and some impressive surfing taking place. Local lad Josh Burke faught his way to a convincing win on the day.
The weekend also saw some quality surf further north with Perth and Mandurah surfers enjoying a pretty epic day by Metro standards with clean 2-3ft+ conditions on Sunday.
