Swell Recap – Monday to Sunday

Great Start to the new financial year

The surf has been rocking along over the last week, since the EOFY, it’s been one of those weeks that you say ‘that’s why I live down here!’ The photos speak for themselves. If you are a kid on holidays you must of thought Christmas has come early.

It all started last Monday, and hasn’t really dropped under 3ft since. Swell has been westerly in direction, and reasonably straight, but it has been a little wonky even on the really good days. The wind has been offshore the whole time too, tending westerly at times, and strong on Thursday and Friday.

The tides have been really full all week. With the lows hardly below a 0.6 meters, the tide has been high most of the day.

Tuesday was a definite stand out with small waves early, that built to 4-5ft plus mid morning. Winki was definitely the spot to be.

There were a few good days at Rincon and Jan Juc during the middle of the week, with 3ft waves and the long high tides being a bonus for these spots. The evenings seemed to be the best and least crowded too.

As for the weekend, the swell started off around 3-4ft on Saturday and built around 9am to solid six foot. Although it didn’t get much bigger, it did stick around till Sunday night. Sets were a little inconsistent, but when they came there were plenty of waves in each, so it was a bit on and off. Clean offshore wind all weekend too.

Monday morning is looking really fun too. Hopefully everyone has gone back to work.
