This is a really exciting time in surfboard design. There’s an evolution and fusion of so many styles happening. We’re moving away from hard-core, high-performance boards and getting reinvigorated with flow, style and fun in the water.

This year’s summer boards have shown just this, with shapers putting a lot more emphasis on shorter, flatter and fatter boards. They ‘re experimenting a lot more and with the help of computers and shaping machines, they’re coming up with a lot of great boards that work. The shapers are getting better at shaping these kinds of boards and the boards are certainly getting better.

It’s like the priority of surfing is moving towards just being fun again, like people are realizing that they’re not John John so they don’t need to ride the same boards that he rides. This shift is encouraging more user-friendly, high-performance boards that are great for summer waves and are surprising people how fun they really are. Surfers are more accepting to the shorter boards with more volume distributed in the right places.

Here are the boards that are really pushing boundaries and are performing great in the water this summer.
