Free surf rescue training at North Steyne, June 29. Come on, you’ve got an hour to spare

We all know surfers do a LOT of rescues. We’re often on the spot when nobody else is.

Check this kid out  — classic example.

But can you say for sure you’d know what to do if the situation arose?

That’s why Surfing NSW developed the Surfers Rescue 24/7 course – designed specifically for us and our already active surf skills.

There’s two parts to the course: board rescue skills, and CPR training. And next weekend, Saturday June 29 at Manly, you’ll have a golden opportunity to take part – FREE!

All you’ve gotta do is show up at North Steyne on the beach in front of the surf club at around 8.30am. Bring your board, wetsuit, towel etc.

You’ll spend the next hour or so working through the rescue techniques in and out of the water with the help of SNSW’s expert coaches, overseen by the legendary Matty Grainger. The work will get you a certificate of training plus a free BBQ to finish.

SNSW will contact you at a later date to follow-up with a CPR training session – also free.

This is a great opportunity to skill up in something we all should know how to do. Surfers are a key part of the coastal safety net and you can learn to play your part, maybe one day save a person’s life.

A few things to know:

63% of surfers who’ve been involved in a rescue feel they have saved a life.

The highest single number of rescues (26% of all water rescues) occur on quiet beaches with hardly anyone around (ie where we’re the most likely to be on site).

Meet at 8.30am, North Steyne beach side. Bring board, wettie etc.

Register beforehand here, or just turn up!
