TravelSIM Team Australia Standout Junior Surfer Awarded to Cooper Chapman

THE TravelSIM Team Australia junior squad recently returned home from a bronze medal podium finish at the 2011 Quiksilver ISA World Junior Surfing Championship in Peru.

After five consecutive years of Australian domination, Team Peru won the largest junior surfing event in the sport’s history in one of the most dramatic last-day team standings.

Team Australia is the only opportunity for Australian surfers to represent their country as part of a team at an ISA World Surfing Games.

Following the completion of the prestigious event, Team Australia’s coaching and management staff awarded Cooper Chapman (NSW) as the standout Australian surfer.

Chapman receiving a free custom surfboard from BASE for his efforts.

Chapman was a solid performer throughout the event, inspiring the team in the last heat of the penultimate day of competition.

With only seconds to go in his heat and needing a 5.5 ride to progress into the next round, a wave popped up and he had to hassle and take a wave off Conner Coffin (USA), who was in second place at the time.

The standout surfer landing an air reverse as the horn sounded, scoring a six point ride that ultimately motivated the Australian Team going into the final day of competition.

BASE CEO John Cross said they’re excited to be giving back to Australia’s junior surfing talent.

“BASE surfboards is proud to partner with TravelSIM Team Australia and offer Australia’s most outstanding junior surfer a free custom surfboard,” he said.

TravelSIM Team Australia has traditionally been the dominant force at the ISA World Junior Championship boasting a stellar six from eight title wins and in 2011 our athletes are on a quest to secure a sixth consecutive overall gold in a row at the pumping waves of Caballeros and Señoritas, Punta Hermosa, Peru.

The 2011 Quiksilver ISA World Junior Surfing Championship gathered the finest surfers from 27 nations to compete in the boy's under 18, boy's under 16 and girls under 18 divisions. As members of their respective National Surf Teams, surfers competed for the glory of winning Team and Individual Gold, Silver, Bronze and Copper medals.

With the support and coaching of Surfing Australia’s High Performance Centre (HPC), TravelSIM Team Australia will be fighting to defend their current world title and would like to recognise the Australian Sports Commission (ASC), TravelSIM, Suncorp and BASE for their continuing support of the Team Australia Junior Program.
