COASTALWATCH PLUS - a new window on the coast

1 Dec 2011 0 Share

If you’re reading this, you’ve probably already bookmarked Coastalwatch as your go-to for surf cameras, reports and forecasts, and trust our contributors to bring you footage from epic sessions right around the country. We’ve been doing it for over a decade now, and hope we’ve played a small part in keeping you in the water when it counts.

Technology has advanced incredibly over that time. New wave and weather models have given us deeper insights into what’s going on out in the ocean, and allowed us to predict surf and wind conditions with far greater detail and accuracy. Likewise it’s now possible to present rich online experiences unimaginable back in 1998 when Coastalwatch launched.

Our team of meteorologists and technicians have stepped up to the challenge and, after a year working closely with web developers, have created an entirely new suite of online tools built for today’s surfers. There are interactive displays, like the WaveTracker, that break down swell and wind information into state-of-the-art graphics, and redesigned forecast charts based on more accurate buoy information. With a lot more information to display, and thousands of kilometres of coast to cover, you’ll also appreciate the customisation options to focus on the parts of the coast relevant to your surfing.

There’s a wealth of new weather features powering the site, but our designers have also been busy, unsheathing the scalpel and giving the site a major facelift. New video and photo galleries, cleaner layout and much less advertising are just a few of the differences you can look forward to.

It's been a long time in the making and we're looking forward to officially launching onto the word wide web on Wednesday 7 December 2011. Our current coastalwatch members have already been offered access to the site and are taking full advantage, we hope you'll take the time too and log on to test out the new features, and enjoy a fresh view of the coast.

You can check it all out when it goes live on December 7, but in the meantime check out the video below to get an idea of what’s in store.

We’ll also be sending out an email very soon, so if you want first access to Coastalwatch Plus, CLICK HERE to add your name to the list...
