OVERVIEW

Looking ahead in detail. Plenty of fun sized surf on offer throughout the current forecast period. Starting with Wednesday we are expecting to see a steady run of mid sized SSW groundswell across the archipelago. Exposed breaks should see trailing energy showing wave heights within the 3-4ft range with possible larger sets at the more open reefs, beach breaks. A trade wind pattern has emerged with current wind models indicating moderate SE - ESE winds throughout the morning, easing SE - SSE for a period in the afternoon.

A minor pulse in SSW groundswell is then expected to show into Thursday under continued clean, trade wind conditions. This overlapping pulse comes courtesy of a weakening polar low currently slipping beneath the Western Australian coast. Dispersed energy in 16-18second period groundswell is expected to track north before making landfall throughout the day Thursday. Expect a slight bump in swell throughout the day from around the 3-4ft range early, rising with 5ft to occasional 6ft sets at the more exposed breaks in the afternoon. Moderate morning trade winds remain in place before easing in the afternoon.

Mid sized SSW groundswell then holds into Friday morning before slowly easing off into the day. We should see some decent 3-5ft surf across exposed breaks with potential larger sets early, grading smaller at sheltered reefs, beaches. Wave heights are then expected to bottom out on Saturday courtesy of a stagnant period is swell activity. Exposed breaks will be the pick with fun sized options speculatively within the 2-3ft range with slightly larger sets at magnets. Conditions hold generally favourable under a moderate E’ly tending SE wind pattern.

A building trend is then expected to be seen into Sunday courtesy of a mid sized, extra long period SW groundswell filling in throughout the day. Stemming from a series of polar lows intensify throughout the Heard Island region mid week before potentially weakening as they shift within Indonesia’s southern swell window. Recent modeling indicates a mid sized pulse, speculatively peaking Sunday afternoon, Monday morning within the 4-6ft range at exposed breaks. Early Sunday will be generally small prior to the arrival of 18-20second period early forerunners. Conditions hold generally favourable on Sunday, Monday under the influence of a light to moderate trade wind pattern.

LONG RANGE

Looking further ahead…We currently see potential for a pulse in stronger SW groundswell overlapping Mondays mid sized SW swell. Recent long range model runs show an intense series of storms forming south of Madagascar on Wednesday driving a potential strong rise in 18-20second period SW groundswell. Building Tuesday 02nd , holding size Wednesday the 03rd. Wave heights are then expected to ease off slowly before another potential spike in mid period SW groundswell on the weekend of the 06th and 07th. Stay tuned, Indo forecast’s posted Tuesday’s.
