COASTALWATCH | SWELL DIARY

SWELL SUMMARY

SYDNEY REGION
SWELL: South @ 14 sec
WAVES: 6-10ft
WIND: W-SW-ESE 12 > 6kn

GOLD COAST
SWELL: SE @ 16 sec
WAVES: 2-4ft
WIND: SW-SE-NE 10-15kn

After a run-up to yet another late wintery south swell on the east coast, we've seen waves hit the beaches up to 10foot with bomboras and outer reefs activating and only protected southern corners hosting surfable waves. The swell has also coincided with high level high and low tides.

These conditions were due to a south groundswell that peaked on Sunday morning for the Sydney, Wollongong, Mid-North NSW coasts. Sets ranging from 6 – 8ft+ south facing beaches, grading to 4–6ft+ elsewhere – including the NSW north coast and Gold Coast – with size depending on exposure. The wind was light early from the west to southwest at 5 to 15 knots, tending light and variable, then swinging to the northeast during the afternoon.

MONDAY'S OUTLOOK: Easing SSE groundswell. Sets ranging from 3 – 5ft exposed breaks, inconsistent larger at south magnets early, grading smaller elsewhere. WIND: Early light NW, tending N during the day, then NE 10 to 15 knots during the afternoon.
