FCS have today announced the winner of their inaugural FCS Legend Shaper Award as Bob McTavish.

Bob is of course a pioneer of surfboard shaping and design, his revolutionary affect on the sport and culture going back all the way to the 1960s.

“There are far better shapers than me,” ever humble Bob says at the opening of the beautiful 15 minute clip FCS have put together to present the award. The clip itself is a wonderful dive into the history of Australia's surfboard shaping with some epic archival footage and photos that’ll stoke the hell out of you.

The inaugural award sees the winner of the Legend category, Bob, and the Icon category (which will be announced next week) to each shape a board for Mick Fanning to ride. And the footage of Mick and Bob talking surfboards and classic 70s shapes is unreal.

But the best of it no doubt is the wise words of Bob that end the video. "Every board I shape I still visualise in the water..."

"After doing it for 60 years, you just do it because you love it..., it doesn't matter really what accolades you get or you don't, you're here still the next day shaping. It just goes on and on..."
