"I don't feel separation between the work I do and the play that I do, it’s all just one big thing.“

FCS have today announced the recipient of their inaugural FCS Icon Shaper Award as Jon Pyzel.

Jon is of course the man behind the blades that John John Florence has been surfing this past decade to never before seen levels of performance, including two World Titles, and perhaps the best freesurfing yet seen in the sport (can anyone else do what John John does?). And a surfer is only as good as his surfboard. That's not to say that this award is about John John, it's about the things that Pyzel is achieving in the art of shaping right now.

Says FCS:

"To qualify for the Icon category shapers needed to have 20 years of experience under their belt. And while the Legend Award was about honouring the past, this award is more about acknowledging what’s happening now, the shapers who’re innovating and leading board design into the future."

It'd be hard to argue with the choice of Jon Pyzel then, he fits the bill perfectly.

This announcement follows Bob McTavish being awarded the Legend Award in the inaugural FCS Shaper awards a couple of weeks ago.
